A 19thC brass bound rosewood writing box / slope with twin campaign style handles, single drawer under and inset brass plaque to top inscribed 'Presented to W Evan Franks Esq. by the Lower Norwood Working Mens Institute as a mark of their esteem for his invaluable assistance to the Working Classes, October 1st 1857'. Opening to reveal a fitted interior with Bramah lock, twin inkwells, etc. Containing various early 20thC documents to include University of London degree certificate, The Institute of Automobile Engineers certificate, City and Guilds of London Institute Department of Engineering certificate, etc. Box approx. 7 3/4" high x 20" wide x 10 3/4" deep
