Vasili Gouda was born in Ioannina in 1779. He took part in the War of Independence and was closely associated with the Souliot Clan of Botsaris. At first he served as secretary and adjutant of Marco Botsaris. He fought bravely in several battles under his command, in 1824 he contributed to the area of Grammeno. He was promoted as chiliarch after Marco's death. He travelled to Nafplio as envoy of the Guard of the Monastery of Mega Spileo. From 1827 to mid 1828 he visited the Ionian Islands and various European cities including Ancona, Pisa, Marseille, Geneva, and Paris meeting important people such as Ioannis Kapodistrias, Metropolitan Ignatius of Hungary, French General Lafayette, and Swiss Philhellene Jean-Gabriel Eynard. He died in Athens 1845.
