Chevalier and Officier of the Legion d' Honneur medals, awarded to Alfred Ewert MA, Professor of Romance Languages, Oxford (1891-1969). Both medals cased with buttons and ribbons, and documentation:
Award certificates numbered 55716 and 62234, dated 1948 and 1956, bearing the signatures of Grand Chanceliers de la Legion d' Honneur Paul Dassault and Georges Catroux, French Presidents Vincent Auriol and Rene Coty, and a further letter of congratulations from the French Ambassador to London. With two letters from Buckingham Palace granting permission to wear the insignia, bearing the signatures of Private Secretaries to King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II Sir Alan 'Tommy' Lascelles GCB, GCVO, CMG, MC, and Baron Michael Adeane GCB, GCVO, PC.
